About Lessons

  • Students learn the cello with personalized lessons using the Royal Conservatory and Suzuki method.
  • Each lesson includes the study of technique, scales and arpeggios, studies, and repertoire.
  • For students age 4-6, their parent or an adult needs to attend each lesson so they can help their child with daily practice.

Recitals and Performances

  • Performances are an important part of learning to play an instrument.
  • They are motivating to the student, build musicianship, self-confidence, camaraderie.
  • Students perform in three recitals a year, at the Phinney Farmer's Market, and the Royal Room.

Tuition Rates and Policies

  • Lessons are $40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 45 minutes, and $80 for 60 minutes.
  • Tuition ensures the holding of a lesson slot, three recitals per academic year, accompanist fees, and rental costs for lesson and recital facilities.  Tuition is based on student’s lesson  length, not the number of lessons received.
  • Tuition is not reduced to compensate for missed lessons or canceled group lessons.
  • Tuition is due by the first lesson of the month and no later than the 7th of each month.
  • You can pay online through paypal, or in person with cash or a check.

About Todd:

I have been teaching cello lessons in Seattle for over 20 years to both children and adults.

Testimonials

" I just wanted to pass along this little story and a special thanks  to you, Todd, and to your family for the special gift of music in our  home. Your teaching and your family's support of our children's musical  journey and education is, to be plain, a really big deal. We are deeply  grateful for your instruction and support."

"As an adult learner, I had my own ideas of what had worked for me  in the past, but when I let go of those and embraced exactly what Todd  recommended as my cello teacher, I made remarkable improvements! I have  had five music teachers (various instruments) in my life, and Todd Kovell is the best."

Teaching Sucess:

My teaching success includes preparing many young students to major in music at the college level. My students have attended the Interlochen and Marrowstone music camps, have been the principal cellist in the Cascade Youth Symphony, played in the Seattle Youth Symphony. I have taught adult beginners who have gone on to study with prestigious players such as Nathan Whittaker.
